Astra Solutions is currently seeking a Mid/Senior-level Software Developer to build and integrate generative AI services to support a government customer located in Huntsville, Alabama. This is a hybrid work schedule with 2-3 days a week in the office.
Responsibilities Include:
- Design, implement, and maintain generative AI features (e.g., chat, summarization, classification, agents, RAG) using modern frameworks and application patterns and Azure cloud services.
- Implement evaluation (automated tests, human review loops, metrics) and guardrails (safety, PII handling, policy compliance, abuse prevention).
- Collaborate on LLMOps practices: versioning prompts/models, CI/CD, monitoring, logging, tracing, and incident response for AI systems.
- Build and improve retrieval and context workflows (embeddings, vector stores, chunking, re-ranking) and tune them for quality, latency, and cost.
- Apply Azure security fundamentals where required.
- Partner with security, privacy, and compliance stakeholders on data handling, access controls, and auditability.
- Communicate technical trade-offs clearly; document and communicate service behavior, configuration, and operation.
Required Qualifications:
- US Citizen
- Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance
- 8-15 years of professional software development experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related technical field or equivalent.
- Experience with RAG patterns (hybrid search, vector fields, semantic ranking) and embedding pipelines.
- Experience integrating generative AI into applications and familiarity with prompt engineering.
- Experience building software with version control (Git), automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab).
- Experience with agentic patterns, tool/function calling, orchestration frameworks, or workflow engines.
- Demonstrated time management skills (i.e., organization, prioritization, communication, planning, and problem-solving).
- Ability to work independently on well-scoped features while coordinating with teammates on interfaces and integration points.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An ACTIVE and CURRENT SECRET federal security clearance
- Experience with Azure AI Search for hybrid/vector retrieval and relevance tuning in production scenarios.
- Experience building RAG pipelines (chunking strategies, metadata filtering, re-ranking, evaluation of retrieval quality).
- Experience deploying models or AI services on cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) and using containers (Docker/Kubernetes).
- Experience with evaluation harnesses, benchmarking, red-teaming, or responsible AI practices.
- Familiarity with .NET/C# frontend integration for AI-powered UX, streaming responses, and performance considerations.
- Professional certifications such as cloud certifications (Azure/AWS/GCP), ML/AI credentials, or security/privacy certifications relevant to enterprise systems (e.g. Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate or Azure AI Engineer Associate).
