Astra Solutions is currently seeking a Facilities Engineer in Huntsville, AL to support facilities lifecycle assessments for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA).
Job Purpose:
The Facilities Engineer supports conventional and moderately complex engineering assignments, applying engineering techniques and analyses particularly while surveying existing facilities for failing/degraded systems and or equipment. A background in DoD facilities engineering is desirable. The position will support the Project Manager with conducting site surveys for identifying facility deficiencies, documenting, assessing, planning, and developing execution timelines for MDA facility repair projects at Fort Greely, Alaska.
The Facilities Engineer will support onsite surveys of existing facilities, review/analyze applicable facility codes for compliance, recommend cost effective mitigation strategies for replacing deteriorating equipment/facility assets, prepare in-depth reports that accurately capture the results of the site survey and provide other facility engineering duties as required per the project scope.
Responsibilities Include:
- Assist Subject Matter Expert & Program Manager to develop program schedule and milestones.
- Research code compliance issues and accessibility requirements related to facilities space use and functionality. Captures user requirements and s ensure enforcement of regulations and policies as they apply to the facility projects. Provides technical engineering expertise for design and construction on projects.
- Assist with developing, monitoring, and tracking of critical milestones for the overall successful delivery of projects
- Assist with the development of all activities including project scope, schedule, and budget
- Identifies current or potential project challenges, employing any/all engineering techniques to facilitate resolution, coordinating with team members and other technical experts, as needed
- Develops funding estimates as related to facility project recommendations
- Ensure team’s deliverables meet program goals/objectives, and assists in the oversite of the quality assessment process
- Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate
- The candidate must display the ability and experience to interact with and coordinate facilities engineering tasks with the government customer, host installations, public works, and executing agencies
- Travel is required one week per quarter or as needed.
Education Requirements:
- Active Department of Defense Secret security clearance (mandatory)
- 10 years of previous facilities engineering experience
- Bachelor’s Degree required in Mechanical/Electrical/Civil/General/Facilities Engineering from an accredited university or college (mandatory)
- Must also have a working knowledge of: - USACE/DPW construction project execution - Construction projects, shop drawings, RFIs and submittal reviews - Project planning and design scoping sessions/charrettes - Facility assessments & environmental system operations
- Proficient in the utilization of standard engineering theories and practices
- Knows codes and criteria within the discipline including Unified Facilities Criteria
- Willingness to work in a team environment with little direction, and the ability to work independently while prioritizing and supporting multiple tasks
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
- National Certification as a PE is a desired attribute
Target salary range is $90,000 - $125,000. The estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
